Watford 1959 - 1961 The Golden Boys became the GBs (also the Hornets) when they exchanged blue and white for old gold and black in 1959-60, this marking a brilliant season at the end of which they were promoted to the old Division 3. The photo is of the team for this season which includes in the front row centre Cliff Holton (46 goals in that campaign) and Dennis Uphill to his right (36 goals). Having been relegated to the Fourth Division Watford made yet another change in their colours, this time to yellow, red and black but it was not until the arrival of pop star Elton John as chairman in 1977 that the club began their remarkable climb to the top. Graham Taylor was appointed manager and in 1978, “The Hornets” stormed to the Fourth Division title. The following season they reached the semi-finals of the League Cup and won promotion to Division Two. This shirt is long sleeved and made from 100 % cotton.
